The Merrill Lynch Shootout would like to congratulate its Tournament Host, Greg Norman on his spectacular and historic performance at the 137th British Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. The two-time Open champion made an improbably run at his third Claret Jug and provided a thrill to golf fans across the globe. Norman's third place finish jumped him a record 480 places in the world golf rankings and also gained him an invitation to the 2009 Masters. Congratulations on an amazing week!

As we continue our 20th Anniversary celebration, please join us as this month we look back at the 2000 & 2001 events.

2000 - With the Merrill Lynch Shootout's current home, Tiburón Golf Club, still under construction, the Great White Course at Doral Golf Resort was the one-year home to the Shootout. Brad Faxon & Scott McCarron were victorious in a playoff over Carlos Franco & Scott Hoch. The twenty-four player field featured the young gun team of Adam Scott & Charles Howell III, the father-son team of Jack & Gary Nicklaus and a team from the early Shootout years Arnold Palmer & Peter Jacobsen.

2001 - The Merrill Lynch Shootout moved to its new home at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort & Tiburón Golf Club in Naples. The Southwest Florida community immediately embraced the area's only PGA TOUR event! Brad Faxon & Scott McCarron were once again victorious as they defeated the team of John Daly & Frank Lickliter by two strokes. Faxon & McCarron became the first team in Shootout history to successfully defend their title. Featured pairings at the Shootout's first year in Naples included Raymond Floyd & Stewart Cink, Peter Jacobsen & Craig Stadler and Norman & Steve Elkington.

After Greg Norman's remarkable effort and performance at one of the most memorable championships in British Open history, four (4) Merrill Lynch Shootout fans were crowned winner of the Shootout's 3rd Fantasy Challenge of the season.

Congratulations to the following winners:

  • Who will win the British Open Championship? - SANDY CLARKE
  • What will the winning score be? - ADAM JALBERT
  • Where will the cut line fall? - DON CLARKE
  • Which 2007 MLS participant will finish highest? - STEPHEN PARKER
