As we continue our 20th Anniversary celebration, please join us as this month we look back at the 1998 & 1999 events.

1998 - The tenth anniversary of the Shootout was celebrated in style as tournament host Greg Norman and Steve Elkington defeated the team of Peter Jacobsen & John Cook in the event's first ever playoff. Jacobsen & Cook forced a playoff thanks to their record tying score of 55 on Sunday. The field was expanded in '98 to 24 players and featured seven Presidents Cup participants including Davis Love III, Justin Leonard, Fred Couples, Mark Calcavecchia and Norman. The twelve two-person teams competed for a record $1.3 million purse.

1999 - Fred Couples and David Duval captured a six-stroke victory over the team of Scott McCarron and Scott Hoch. The win was a record tying third Shootout title for Couples who was also victorious in 1990 & 1994. Couples & Duval each earned $175,000 for their efforts from the record purse of $1.5 million. The Shootout was played for the eleventh and final time at Sherwood Country Club in 1999 as plans were unveiled to move the event to Florida.

The Merrill Lynch Shootout congratulates June O'Connell for winning the 2008 U.S. Open Championship Fantasy Challenge.
